IMANLagos in Collaboration with GHI Presents: Addiction Prevention 2019

TITLE: FAMILY CENTERED ADDICTION PREVENTION

Addiction and its consequences are on the rise in Nigeria. Several studies have attested to this fact.

A very recent study in selected Lagos secondary schools revealed that the most commonly abused substances include Indian hemp, (56.4%), followed by cannabis (47.5%), alcohol (47%) and cigarette (31.4%). Most of these students were between the ages of 14-17 years.

The consequences of substance abuse include

poor performance at school and work leading to unemployment

Many youths are homeless, wanderers, thugs, rapist, armed robbers, terrorist and so on because they are addicts. A lot of lives and properties have been lost in traffic accidents and violence because of substance abuse. Many youths that are supposed to be useful to themselves and be the hope of their families and the society at large  have wasted their lives as a result of drug addiction.

This course is aimed at reducing the incidence of drug addiction and promoting sound health in the Nigerian family.
