Report of the Emergency Special Meeting of the Muslim Community of Lagos State on the 1436 A.H. (2015) Hajj Stampede at Muna, Saudi Arabia
The Muslim Community of Lagos State called for an emergency special meeting of the Central Working Committee (CWC) with the stakeholders (including IMAN Lagos) on Thursday, 17th Dhul Hijjah, 1436 A.H. (1st October, 2015) at Lagos Central Mosque, Lagos.
The special meeting focused attention on the recent tragedy that befell the Muslim World during the 1436 A.H (2015) Hajj Stampede. This catastrophe resulting from both the collapse of a construction crane at the Haram and the Jamarat stampede in Mecca in which hundreds of pilgrims died and many more injured. It was estimated that about 100 Nigerians died in both tragic incidents .
After extensive deliberations, the meeting resolved as follows:
1.We shall call on all our Mosques to offer special prayers for the deceased, injured, and ourselves after the Jum’ah service on Friday 18th Dhul Hijjah, 1436 A.H. (2nd October, 2015) and also pray for the safe return of Nigeria pilgrims who have completed the hajj rites.
2.We shall send a condolence letter to the President, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, as well as the Saudi Authority through the Saudi Arabia Embassy in Nigeria.
3.We shall organize a Press Release on the media and a publication in two National newspapers.
4.Each organization shall contribute N25,000 to fund the above expenses, payable to:
